Emergency Plumbing: What to Do Before the Plumber Arrives

Step 3: Open Faucets

After shutting off the main valve, open several faucets to drain remaining water from the pipes and reduce pressure.

Step 4: Contain the Water

Use towels, buckets, and mops to contain standing water. Move valuables away from the affected area. If water is near electrical outlets, turn off the breaker.
